SINGAPORE — Two people were taken to hospital after a seven-vehicle pile-up along the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) on Tuesday (May 31) night.

The crash along the PIE towards Changi involved six cars and a taxi, the police said in a statement on Wednesday, adding that they were alerted to it at 10.35pm.

In a video shared on social media, seven cars are seen lined up in the right-most lane of the expressway, in what appears to be a chain collision.

The video showed one of the cars lying on top of another car, while people are seen making phone calls and an ambulance is at the scene.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that they were alerted to the accident, which occurred near the Eunos Flyover, at about 10.40pm. They took two men to Changi General Hospital.

The duo, a 50-year-old driver of one of the cars and his 54-year-old passenger, were conscious when they were on the way to hospital, the police said.

Three others were assessed for minor injuries and they later refused to be taken to the hospital, SCDF said.

In a separate accident, a 38-year-old man was arrested for suspected drink driving at around the same time on the PIE, the police said.

The crash involved a car and a motorcycle.

Police investigations are ongoing.
