SINGAPORE — The three victims of a road accident in New Zealand’s South Island on April 17 were undergraduates from the National University of Singapore (NUS), the university said.
In response to TODAY’s queries on Tuesday (May 9), NUS said that it is “deeply saddened by the unfortunate accident".
“This is a difficult time for their families, and we have been in touch with them to provide all possible assistance and support.
“Our thoughts are with their families and loved ones during this period of grief.”
NUS declined to say what the students were doing in New Zealand or if they were on an exchange programme.
The three students — identified as Sherwin Chong Shi Yun, 21, Yang Xinyue, 21 and Vincent Lim Jia Jun, 24 — were killed in a crash in the early morning of April 17 when their camper van collided with a barrier and caught fire, the New Zealand police said.

The accident occurred at the intersection of State Highway 79 and Te Moana Road near the town of Geraldine, about 140km south-west of Christchurch.
"Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing," the police added.
