SINGAPORE — Around 3,000 operationally-ready National Servicemen (NSmen) and their employers received incorrect National Service (NS) pay on Thursday (April 12), because of a "technical error".
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said that the error happened during data migration to another server.
It was discovered when audit checks were performed for the transactions. The checks were required for such payment procedures at the ministry.
The glitch has since been fixed.
"Affected servicemen and their employers have been informed but need not take any action," said Mindef, adding that it will recover the incorrect payments from the servicemen's respective banks.
The correct amounts are in the process of being deposited into the bank accounts of affected servicemen.
NSmen receive service pay when they report for training. It is pro-rated according to the length of his National Service training.
If the serviceman suffers a loss in his civilian income as a result of having to attend NS activities, he can claim the difference between his civilian income and service pay.
