SINGAPORE — Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) alumni who enrol for new undergraduate, graduate or modular courses with the university will each get S$500 worth of learning credits from Saturday (Sept 8).
Some 30,000 alumni members, including those who were graduates from the former SIM University, qualify for the credits, which do not have an expiry date. The credits can be used in conjunction with the university’s other existing alumni schemes and the national SkillsFuture credit scheme.
Announced on Saturday, the SUSS lifelong learning credits were rolled out in conjunction with the launch of SUSS’ new College of Lifelong Learning and Experiential Learning (CLEL) at its campus in Clementi Road, which aims to cater to “learners’ needs before, during and after their university education”.
Concurrently, it also unveiled the SUSS Life programme which aims “to provide Singaporeans with opportunities to their fullest potential throughout their life”.
As a pioneer educational institution focused on lifelong learning, differentiated by its broad admission criteria, multiple learning pathways and diverse learning environment, SUSS said the programme is a natural extension of its mission to provide a holistic education throughout the “course of life”.
“It is meant to meet the evolving training needs of our workforce in a dynamic and disruptive business environment,” said SUSS. The programme will be spearheaded by the university’s new CLEL.
Under the new CLEL, various lifelong learning courses, work-study initiatives, work attachments, overseas exposure programmes and service learning will be consolidated to cater to learners and “facilitate a lifelong journey of learning”.
THE NEW CLEL WILL:
Offer advanced standing courses to national servicemen as well as junior college and polytechnic students;
Conduct student team-building initiatives and leadership training;
Offer new SUSS core courses to streamline and replace the university’s current common curriculum, university core and social science core courses;
Allow for the delivery of CET modular courses in sectors such as accountancy, applied health sciences, early childhood and more;
Prepare students for work attachments and job placements;
Offer global courses to Singaporeans and foreign students; and
Run the Professional Conversion Programme.
