SINGAPORE — A total of 10 halls at Singapore Expo are being converted into temporary isolation facilities for Covid-19 patients, with four already completed and occupied, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in a Facebook post on Sunday (April 26).

Mr Lee said the other six halls would “come soon”, adding that “the Covid-19 pandemic has forced us to improvise and come up with innovative, workable solutions on the ground”.

In the post, Mr Lee cited TODAY’s report on how two halls at Singapore Expo, which can hold a combined 950 patients, were converted into a temporary isolation facility in just three days.

Other repurposed locations which will be used to house Covid-19 patients include: Changi Exhibition Centre, which can hold 2,800 patients, and Tanjong Pagar Terminal, which can hold 15,000 patients, Mr Lee said.

Medical staff from restructured and private hospitals have “stepped forward” to look after the patients in these facilities, he added.

"With many more Covid-19 cases, mostly mild, we urgently needed a solution to house the large numbers, and not let our hospitals get swamped," Mr Lee wrote.

"These community facilities allow our hospitals to focus on the more serious cases."

Singapore reported a total of 13,624 confirmed Covid-19 cases as of Sunday noon, the majority of which are work permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.
