SINGAPORE — Around 6.1kg of cannabis and other drugs, worth more than S$418,000, were seized by authorities on Thursday (April 14) at the Woodlands Checkpoint and in a subsequent follow-up operation. A total of six people were arrested.
A 25-year-old Singaporean man was first arrested by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) at about 8am after he was caught with 4kg of cannabis at the Woodlands Checkpoint. Also in his posession was one bundle of ‘Ice’ weighing about 310g.
In a follow-up operation, officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) seized another 2.1kg of cannabis, 380g of ‘Ice’, 152 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets, 102 Erimin-5 tablets and 18g of heroin.
Five more people, all Singaporean, were arrested for alleged drug-related offences. Three of them — two men aged 25 and 26 and a woman, 26 — are suspected drug traffickers, while the other two men, aged 24 and 32, are suspected drug abusers.
Investigations into the drug activities of all arrested suspects are ongoing, said the ICA and CND in a joint release.
Under the Misuse of Drugs Act, those convicted of trafficking in more than 500g of cannabis may face the death penalty.
