9 arrested for alleged sale of marine gas oil at Selat Pauh Anchorage

SINGAPORE — Nine men — aged between 21 and 56-years-old — have been arrested by the Police Coast Guard (PCG) for their suspected involvement in the illegal sale of marine gas oil (MGO), the Singapore Police Force said.

SINGAPORE — Nine men — aged between 21 and 56-years-old — have been arrested by the Police Coast Guard (PCG) for their suspected involvement in the illegal sale of marine gas oil (MGO), the Singapore Police Force said.

In a news release on Monday (June 18), the police said that the PCG had received information that “a foreign registered tugboat and a Singapore registered vessel were believed to be involved in an illegal sale of MGO at the sea of Selat Pauh Anchorage”.

The Selat Pauh Anchorage is located off Pulau Sudong near Jurong Island.

The Police added that four crew members of the Singapore registered vessel were believed to have misappropriated 400 litres of MGO without their company’s knowledge, and had sold them to five crew members of the foreign registered tugboat. The tugboat has since been seized.

The nine men will be charged in court on Tuesday (June 19) with criminal breach of trust under section 408 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, they face a jail term of up to 15 years, and a fine, the Police said.

Last month, the PCG arrested 15 men — aged between 25 and 60 — for their involvement in the illegal transaction of MGO at the sea of Sultan Shoal lighthouse.

Eight crew members of the Singapore registered vessel had misappropriated 1,000 litres of MGO and had sold them to the crew of a foreign registered tugboat.
