Action to be taken against 2 S'pore Navy personnel who posed as students to solicit donations: Mindef

SINGAPORE — Two Republic of Singapore Navy personnel who posed as students to solicit donations from residents in Hougang last month were found to have acted under the influence of alcohol and action will be taken against them, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said on Thursday (July 21).
Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao first reported on June 28 about the incident, which happened at 1am on June 25.
The two men were caught on camera posing as student volunteers soliciting donations from a resident living in a flat in Hougang.
The men left after being rejected by a resident who later made a police report.
“Investigations disclosed that both individuals had done so out of mischief under the influence of alcohol. Both servicemen have expressed remorse over their actions,” Mindef said.
"The Republic of Singapore Navy holds our service personnel to high standards of discipline and integrity, and expects them to be law-abiding citizens. The two servicemen were summarily trialled on July 20, and actions will be taken against them, which include financial penalties."
Mindef also said that the police have looked into the case and will not be taking any further action against the two servicemen.
Mindef did not state the two servicemen's names, ranks or to which units they belong.
