SINGAPORE — Residents living at a housing block in Yishun have been asked to go for mandatory swab tests on Tuesday and Wednesday (June 1 and 2) after Covid-19 cases were detected in the block.

In a Facebook post, Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, who is Member of Parliament (MP) for Nee Soon Group Representation Constituency, said that the tests will be conducted for residents at Block 745 Yishun Street 72.

The testing will be held at the block’s void deck.

In the post, the MP said that he was informed of the news by a resident and attached a screenshot of a phone text message purportedly sent by the Ministry of Health (MOH) informing the block’s residents of the upcoming testing exercise.

In the message, it was stated that a leaflet will be placed at residents’ doors and they were also given a phone number to call for enquiries.

The test will be free for residents, the message said.

Assoc Prof Faishal, who is also Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development, said: “I will work with the relevant agencies and residents to help facilitate the swabbing exercise to keep our residents and their loved ones safe.”

He added that the Nee Soon Town Council has cleaned and disinfected common areas at Block 745 and the surrounding blocks.

TODAY has contacted MOH for more information.

Earlier, residents of two other blocks — Block 506 Hougang Avenue 8 and Block 559 Pasir Ris Street 51 — had been asked to go for mandatory testing after several cases emerged there.

The swabbing exercises for those two blocks were completed last week. No more cases were detected at the Pasir Ris block while two infections were uncovered at the Hougang block.

CORRECTION: An earlier headline of the article incorrectly stated the Yishun block number as 754. We are sorry for the error.
