SINGAPORE — The community testing of stallholders in and around Tekka Centre has uncovered another case of locally transmitted Covid-19 infection, this time involving a foreign worker residing in the community.

The case was among eight new infections of Covid-19 the Ministry of Health (MOH) reported on Sunday (Nov 29).

The other seven are imported cases who had already been placed on stay-home notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.

Five of the eight new cases are asymptomatic.

The foreign worker is a 41-year-old work permit holder from India who works as a warehouse assistant. He was asymptomatic and was detected during screening on Nov 26.

His serological test result came back positive, which indicates likely past infection, MOH said.

The man's work entails stocktaking at warehouses located at Cuff Road, and delivery of goods to Jothi Store and Flower Shop at 1 Campbell Lane.

He does not interact with customers at the store, MOH said.

The warehouse assistant he works with and two other migrant workers he stays with both tested negative for Covid-19 infection.

The 41-year-old, along with the 60-year-old Singaporean stallholder selling mutton at Tekka Market who was among six cases reported on Saturday, were the only infections picked up from the community testing of stallholders in the Tekka Centre area.

In all, 876 people were tested, with the remaining 874 testing negative for the virus, MOH said.

As for the seven imported cases reported on Sunday, one is a long-term visit pass holder who arrived from Russia while another is a student’s pass holder who came from India.

Another three are work permit holders currently employed in Singapore who arrived from Indonesia.

The remaining two are short-term visit pass holders. One is an engineer who arrived from Malta on a work project in Singapore, while another came from Belarus to participate in a mixed martial arts sporting event as a cornerman.

MOH on Sunday also added the NTUC FairPrice outlet at 301 Yishun Avenue 2 to the list of public places that had been visited by community cases during their infectious period. The outlet was visited on Nov 21 between 8.50pm and 9.55pm.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained low, with a total of three cases in the past week who are currently unlinked, MOH said.

Sunday's tally brings the total number of infections in Singapore to 58,213.

Of these, 58,124 have fully recovered, including five who were discharged on Sunday.

Thirty-one patients are still in hospital, most of whom are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit.

Another 29 with mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19, are isolated at community facilities.

Twenty-nine people have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
