SINGAPORE — Tech giant Apple has announced a voluntary recall of some of its older 15-inch MacBook Pros which contain batteries that may “overheat and pose a safety risk”.

In a statement on Thursday (June 20), the company said the affected laptops were sold between September 2015 and February 2017.

Users may check if their device is affected by keying in its serial number on Apple’s battery recall programme page.

A serial number can be found by clicking the Apple logo in the top left corner of the laptop’s screen and selecting “About This Mac”.

The company advised affected customers to stop using their laptops, and to get their batteries replaced at any Apple store or authorised service providers, free of charge.

This recall does not extend the warranty coverage of the MacBooks, it added.

Apple said that other models sold during the period are not affected.
