Bike-sharing startup Moov Technology gets green light to expand S’pore fleet to 10,000 bicycles
SINGAPORE — Bicycle-sharing start-up Moov Technology has been granted a full bicycle-sharing licence and can now operate a fleet of up to 10,000 bicycles.
SINGAPORE — Bicycle-sharing startup Moov Technology has been granted a full bicycle-sharing licence and can now operate a fleet of up to 10,000 bicycles.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Monday (Oct 14) that it had granted in-principle approval to Moov Technology to graduate to a full licence. The firm was initially operating on a sandbox licence, running up to 1,000 bicycles.
With the announcement, Moov Technology will now tie with operator Anywheel as the second-largest bike-sharing operators here — assuming both operate at maximum permitted strength. SG Bike, which recently acquired Mobike’s fleet of 25,000 bicycles, is the largest.
Anywheel was given approval to operate 10,000 bicycles under a full licence earlier in April.
Separately, the LTA gave an update on its QR code parking system, which was put in place in January this year to curb indiscriminate parking.
Since introducing the QR code system, which includes a temporary ban on errant users, the proportion of trips ending in indiscriminate bicycle parking has fallen from 44 per cent to 13 per cent, the authority said,
LTA added that it regularly reviews the fleet sizes of shared bicycles to ensure that their numbers are able to meet user demand without causing public disamenities.
