Bukit Panjang LRT to resume operations on Sunday on July 1, but with later opening time

SINGAPORE — The Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit (BPLRT) will resume Sunday operations on July 1 — albeit with later opening hours till Oct 28.

SINGAPORE — The Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit (BPLRT) will resume Sunday operations on July 1 — albeit with later opening hours till Oct 28.

After 11 full-day closures on Sundays, BPLRT will resume Sunday services at 8am on July 1, SMRT said in a media release on Thursday (June 21).

The rail operator said the 2.5-hour delay in opening time, compared with the normal time of 5.30am, is to needed to provide its teams the necessary time to carry out essential work on the rest of the network.

“Such efforts are intended to improve the network’s reliability as well as commuters’ travel experience,” SMRT added.

Singapore’s first LRT system has been closed on Sunday since April 15 for renewal works.

SMRT said the Sunday full-day closures have enabled its maintenance and engineering teams to accelerate replacement of power rails and track switch components along critical sectors of the network.

Two bridging bus services that ply the route between BPLRT stations in both directions will continue to run from July 1 to Oct 28, serving commuters when the network opens later on these Sundays. SMRT staff will also be on hand to provide assistance.

SMRT has advised commuters to plan their journeys beforehand during this period.
