SINGAPORE — A car caught fire along Bukit Panjang Road on Monday (May 8) evening, with a video of the incident showing a plume of black smoke visible from a distance.

There were no reported injuries in the blaze, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in response to TODAY’s queries on Tuesday.

SCDF was alerted to the fire, which involved a car, along Bukit Panjang Road at about 6pm on Monday.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze using a water jet and a compressed air foam backpack.

On online forum Reddit, a user named “adinth” posted a video of the incident taken from a window showing what seemed to be a vehicle on fire and thick smoke rising into the air.

The user added in the post: “Was (going to) nap when I heard multiple booms outside my window. The explosions continued for a few minutes.”

A video clip posted by a Facebook page named "Singapore roads accident.com" shows a car being covered in flames near a public bus-stop, with SCDF vehicles and officers at the scene. A few onlookers are also seen looking from a distance.

Another scene shows the white car in a badly burnt condition after the fire was extinguished.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, SCDF said.
