SINGAPORE — The open-air car park in front of Changi Airport Terminal 1 (T1) will be closed some time in the next three months so that construction work for the expansion of Changi Airport Terminal 1 (T1) and Project Jewel can start.

Visitors driving to T1 will instead be directed to Terminal 2 (T2) Car Park 2B, which will be renamed T1 Car Park. This car park will have more parking lots — 1,100 lots to the open-air car park’s 850 lots.

In the meantime, T2 users can continue to use the current Car Park 2A, which has 1,300 parking lots.

The current arrival pick-up point for T1 will also be relocated next to the T1 coach stand, which is just outside the terminal building.

“Based on Changi Airport’s car park utilisation rates, the number of parking spaces at the two car parks at T2 is expected to be adequate to cater to both T1 and T2 users. To further expand parking capacity during busy periods, a free valet parking service will also be introduced at the new T1 Car Park during peak hours on weekends and public holidays,” said Changi Airport in a statement.

To transport airport users between T1 and T2, a complimentary shuttle bus service will be introduced. The daily service will run from 10am to 5am, at regular intervals ranging between five to 15 minutes.

NEW PARKING RATES

To manage the demand for overnight parking, the cap of S$20 for 24 hours of parking at all main terminal car parks will no longer apply from 2am, Oct 14 onwards.

Charges will instead be based on the per-minute rate of 4 cents, which means that parking for 24 hours will cost S$57.60.

As an additional measure to ensure sufficient parking spaces, a new South Car Park with 230 parking lots will open near the entrance to the Jet Quay Terminal. Due to its location being further away from the terminals, it will offer a lower parking rate of 3.5 cents per minute compared to the usual 4 cents and a cap of S$35 per 24 hours of parking.

In light of the various changes, road signage, lane marking along roadways will be in place to guide visitors to the relocated facilities. Service staff will also be present to render assistance to passengers.

A four-day dry run of the closure of the T1 open-air car park as well as the relocation of the arrival pick-up point will be conducted from 2am on Oct 17 to 2am on Oct 21.
