SINGAPORE — The NTUC My First Skool in Toa Payoh where an alleged child abuse case took place has had its operators renewal license reduced to six months from 24 months.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a visit to childcare centres at the KLC School of Education, a private institution for early childhood education, Acting Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing said the centre was handed the letter yesterday and will have to comply to certain conditions and will be regularly reviewed throughout the next six months and depending on compliance, be considered for licensing renewal.
The centre was also found to be inadequate in certain areas such as providing programmes that were not age appropriate.
Conditions the centre must comply to include providing more teacher support, adjusting the centre's layout and reviewing its standard operating procedures.
Earlier this month, a CCTV footage of a teacher mishandling a three-year-old boy at the centre went viral. The 51-year-old teacher is seen dragging the boy and pushing him to the ground, which caused him to sustain a hairline fracture on his shin.
The experienced teacher has yet to be charged pending police investigations but has been dismissed from the school.
The Education Services Union has also been providing support to the teacher.
