SINGAPORE — Streaming service provider Netflix has acquired a total of 10 CNA-produced documentaries that will be available on-demand on its platform for the first time, along with several Mediacorp dramas.
National media network Mediacorp, which runs TODAY and news channel CNA, said in a news release on Tuesday (July 27) that Netflix will stream the homegrown contents to audiences in the Asia-Pacific region following a content deal between the two companies.
Close to 80 hours of documentaries, animations and dramas produced here will be available from August, to coincide with Singapore’s 56th birthday on Aug 9.
“Nature enthusiasts can get themselves lost in Wild City: Forest Life, which features fascinating wildlife in Singapore’s urban jungle such as the Raffles’ banded langur,” Mediacorp said.
Narrated by the legendary Sir David Attenborough, this is the fourth episode in the acclaimed Wild City series that explores the wild side of the island.
Other CNA titles include the award-winning investigative series Undercover Asia and Get Real, both of which “delve into the most intriguing issues and developments in the region”.
Netflix also acquired two animation series: Downstairs and Lil’ Wild.
Aside from that, drama fans may catch English period dramas such as Last Madame, starring actress Joanne Peh as a brothel manager, and Titoudao: Inspired by the True Story of a Wayang Star, which is adapted from Singapore theatre director Goh Boon Teck’s play about a popular Chinese opera performer in the 1950s and 1960s.
Other Mediacorp dramas that Netflix acquired were Beijing to Moscow, which clinched the title of Best Short-Form Drama Series at Mediacorp's Star Awards 2021, and Malay drama series Forensik, a spin-off of the popular English drama Code of Law.
