Consumers cautioned against beauty scams

SINGAPORE — The Singapore Retailers Association (SRA) has cautioned consumers against false beauty endorsements, stating that no arrangements had been made with any business entity. Several consumers have called the SRA to verify offers made by some beauty salons that claimed to be giving away complimentary facial treatments which were endorsed by the association itself. Consumers were told that the SRA had picked the shoppers at random and the cost of these treatment packages would be absorbed by the SRA. On another occasion, there were claims made by the beauty salon that they received a list of Big Spender winners from the SRA who were entitled to S$350 vouchers from the salon, which were also paid for by the SRA. While the SRA has organised a Big Spender Reward programme as part of this year’s Great Singapore Sale promotion, it will end on July 28 with only one winner walking away with the grand prize of S$20,000. Consumers who continue receiving such offers from other business entities are advised to call the SRA at 6295 2622 to verify the offer.
