​Covid-19: 4 new cases in Singapore, all linked to cluster at Science Park

SINGAPORE — Four new cases of Covid-19 have been found in Singapore, and they are all linked to the cluster at Wizlearn Technologies, an e-learning solutions provider located at 10 Science Park Road, the Ministry of Health said on Saturday (Feb 29).

SINGAPORE — Four new cases of Covid-19 have been found in Singapore, and they are all linked to the cluster at Wizlearn Technologies, an e-learning solutions provider located at 10 Science Park Road, the Ministry of Health said on Saturday (Feb 29).

This brings the number of cases in this cluster, which was first announced on Friday, to eight.

Three more patients (Cases 20, 68 and 75) have been discharged from hospital on Saturday, bringing the total who have fully recovered and discharged to 72, MOH said.

“Of the 30 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving. Seven are in critical condition in the intensive care unit,” it added.

ABOUT THE NEW CASES

Case 99

  • A 27-year-old Singaporean man who has no recent travel history to China, Daegu and Cheongdo. He is warded in an isolation room at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID).
  • He reported onset of symptoms on Feb 21 and sought treatment at a general practitioner (GP) clinic on Feb 25 and Pioneer Polyclinic on Feb 28.
  • As he had been identified as a close contact of Case 93, he was referred by MOH to NCID on Feb 28 and immediately isolated.
  • Test results confirmed Covid-19 infection on Feb 28 afternoon. Prior to hospital admission, he had mostly stayed at his home on Jurong West Street 81.

Case 100

  • He is a 20-year-old male Malaysian national, who has no recent travel history to China, Daegu and Cheongdo. He is warded in an isolation room at NCID.
  • He reported onset of symptoms on Feb 27 and had sought treatment at a GP clinic on Feb 28.
  • As he had been identified as a close contact of Case 93, he was referred by MOH to NCID on Feb 28 and immediately isolated.  
  • Tests confirmed his Covid-19 infection that afternoon. Before he was warded, he had mostly stayed home at the Holland Avenue area.

Case 101

  • He is a 61-year-old Singaporean who has no recent travel history to China, Daegu and Cheongdo. He is linked to Case 93.
  • His Covid-19 infection was confirmed on Feb 29 morning and he is warded in an isolation room at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

Case 102

  • She is a 41-year-old Flipino national who is a Singapore work pass holder, and has no recent travel history to China, Daegu and Cheongdo.
  • She is Case 101’s foreign domestic worker and her infection was confirmed on Feb 29 morning.
  • She is warded in an isolation room at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

LINKS BETWEEN PREVIOUS CASES

Further epidemiological investigations and contact tracing have uncovered links between previously announced and new cases, MOH said. This was made possible with the assistance of the Singapore Police Force.

  • Six of the locally transmitted confirmed cases (Cases 31, 33, 38, 83, 90 and 91), as well as Cases 8 and 9, are linked to The Life Church and Missions Singapore ((146B Paya Lebar Road).
  • These six cases are linked to another 23 confirmed cases (Cases 48, 49, 51, 53, 54, 57, 58, 60, 61, 62, 63, 66, 67, 68, 70, 71, 73, 74, 78, 80, 81, 84, 88) who are linked to the Grace Assembly of God (355 Tanglin Road).
  • Nine of the confirmed cases (Cases 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, 34 and 40) are linked to Yong Thai Hang (24 Cavan Road), a health product shop off Lavender Street.
  • Three of the confirmed cases (Cases 30, 36 and 39) are linked to the business meeting held at Grand Hyatt Singapore from Jan 20 to 22.
  • Five of the confirmed cases (Cases 42, 47, 52, 56 and 69) are linked to the Seletar Aerospace Heights construction site.
  • Eight of the confirmed cases (Cases 93, 95, 97, 98, 99, 100, 101 and 102) are linked to Wizlearn Technologies at 10 Science Park Road.

MOH said that investigations on these clusters are ongoing.

As of noon on Feb 29, 3,033 close contacts of infected patients have been quarantined. Of these, 2,764 have completed their quarantine while 269 are still under quarantine.
