SINGAPORE — A cleaner at Ion Orchard, a student from the Singapore Institute of Management Global Education and a foreign domestic worker were among the five Covid-19 community cases reported on Saturday (June 12) that have no known sources of infection to past cases.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said that three community cases were withdrawn from its earlier update after verifying them to be negative for Covid-19 upon further tests.

In its evening update on the coronavirus situation, the ministry said the Ion Orchard cleaner is a 45-year-old China national who is employed by Hong Ye Group. She was asymptomatic and was detected when she went for a Covid-19 test directed by her employer on June 11, where she tested positive.

The 18-year-old student at SIM Global Education last attended school on May 24. She developed a runny nose and fever on June 10 and sought medical treatment the next day. She tested positive on the same day.

The foreign domestic worker is a 27-year-old Myanmar national who developed a fever on June 10 and saw a general practitioner on June 11. She was immediately isolated when she tested positive for Covid-19 the same day.

The two remaining unlinked cases are a 57-year-old Malaysian who works as a land rigger at Jurong Port, and a 68-year-old Singaporean who works as a landscape gardener at Amozonia Landscape.

Another four community cases were linked to previous infections. Three had already been placed in quarantine and one was detected through surveillance.

There were also nine imported infections, making up a total of 18 cases reported on Saturday.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has dropped from 129 in the week before to 32 in the past week.

The number of cases with no known links in the community has also gone down from 20 in the week before to 14 in the past week.

LINKED CASES

Two of the linked cases were Indonesians aged 38 and 40 who are employed by Marina Offshore as a sea crew member and engineer respectively onboard the tugboat Marina Ariel.

The sea crew member developed a fever on June 1 and a cough on June 9 but did not seek medical attention. Similarly, the engineer developed a cough on June 1 and a fever on June 10 but did not see a doctor.

Both were placed on quarantine on June 11 after they were identified as workplace contacts to a previous case and tested positive the next day.

Also quarantined is a 35-year-old Malaysian who works as an administrative staff at Ces Lamination and is a household contact of three previous cases. She was placed in quarantine on May 17.

She developed a runny nose on June 10 during quarantine but only reported her symptoms the next day. She tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday.

The remaining case is an 82-year-old Singaporean who regularly helps out at a sundry store at 115 Bukit Merah View Market & Hawker Centre. She developed a fever and shortness of breath on June 10 and tested positive the next day after she sought treatment at a polyclinic.
