SINGAPORE — Credit and debit cards can soon be used to top up CEPAS cards at General Ticketing Machines.

The service will launch this Friday (July 1), starting with United Overseas Bank (UOB) customers holding Visa, Mastercard, or JCB cards. The service will then extend to other foreign- and locally-issued credit and debit cards from next year.

This new cashless top-up option is a collaboration between TransitLink and UOB.

Currently, commuters can use cash or ATM cards to top up their CEPAS cards.

TransitLink and UOB said that only about one-third of payments made at General Ticketing Machines (GTMs) are via ATM cards. Through this new initiative, “it is hoped that cashless top-up payments at GTMs will increase by at least 10 per cent”, they said.

UOB cardmembers will also be able to make mobile contactless top-up payments at the ticketing machines via UOB Mighty Pay and Apple Pay.

“Expanding contactless acceptance points to the GTMs will further the adoption of such payments and reinforce the move towards a cashless economy,” said Mr Dennis Khoo, Head of Personal Financial Services Singapore at UOB.
