SINGAPORE — The Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) issued a statement today (Jan 19) saying that the website www.dncpdpc.com.sg by DNC Register Pte Ltd, which has a similar domain name to the official Do Not Call (DNC) Registry, is “not associated with, endorsed or approved by the PDPC”.

The Singapore Network Information Centre has since deleted the domain names, dncpdpc.com.sg and dncpdpc.sg, a spokesperson from the PDPC said.

The PDPC also issued a warning that organisations should not adopt names that impersonate the PDPC or its official platforms or that “may mislead the public” into thinking their companies or websites are associated with them.

Additionally, the PDPC said organisations are required to comply with DNC Registry requirements and not the third party aggregators that some organisations use to check telephone numbers against the Registry.

“Should the aggregator fail to indicate that a particular phone number is listed in the official DNC Registry maintained by PDPC, the organisation who calls that number is still liable under the Personal Data Protection Act”, the statement said.

Organisations that wish to register for a DNC Registry account with the PDPC should do so through www.dnc.gov.sg, while individuals registering their numbers on the Registry can do so through the same website, or through PDPC’s official SMS and Toll Free numbers.
