SINGAPORE — A 43-year-old male driver was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and other suspected drug-related offences after crashing into a police car along Jalan Besar Road in the wee hours of Friday (Nov 11). A police officer was taken to the hospital as a result of the incident.

The alleged offender's vehicle collided into the left rear of the police car at 1am on Friday, causing the police vehicle to hit a road sign and the roller shutter of a shophouse, the police said in a statement on Friday.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the incident, which took place at the junction of Jalan Besar and Veerasamy Road, at around 1am the same day.

A 25-year-old police officer was conscious when taken to the hospital, said the police.

The male driver was assessed by an SCDF paramedic for minor injuries but refused to be taken to the hospital, added the authorities.

The police vehicle was on its way to attend to an incident when the collision happened, added the police.

Videos of the accident circulating online show a police car crashed into the roller shutter of a shophouse by the road.

A white car is seen in the video parked nearby with two other police vehicles at the scene.

Police investigations are ongoing.
