SINGAPORE — The E-Bridge Preschool at Corporation Drive will close temporarily for a week after one of its students tested positive for Covid-19, the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) said on Monday (April 13).

The child was placed on quarantine after his or her family member tested positive for the virus last Wednesday. The statement did not disclose the gender or age of either the child or the family member who both tested positive to Covid-19.

In its statement on Monday, ECDA said the centre will close for a week from Tuesday until April 21. It added that the duration of the closure covers the 14-day incubation period of the virus as the child last visited the centre last Tuesday.

During this period, all staff and students at the centre will also be placed on a leave of absence. Contact tracing is ongoing.

The agency added that the centre will resume limited service provisions from April 22.

This is to serve the group of parents who are working in essential services and are unable to extend their alternative care arrangements beyond the period of the closure, said ECDA.

During the period of closure, a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the premises of the preschool will also be conducted.

The centre will also closely monitor its staff and the parents on the health of their children.

“This is in addition to earlier precautionary measures that were implemented in accordance with the Ministry of Health and ECDA guidelines,” the agency added.

The measures include the restriction of visitors, suspension of large group and communal activities as well as excursions and field trips, health checks and stepped up temperature screening measures for all children and staff members.

ECDA added that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and work with the preschool’s management, staff and the parents and students to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all its members.

“Preschools are reminded to be vigilant when conducting health checks, and to observe high standards of personal and environmental hygiene.

“This includes keeping the centre environment clean, and frequent washing of hands with soap – especially before eating or handling food, after toilet visits or when hands are dirtied by respiratory secretions after coughing or sneezing,” it said.
