SINGAPORE — A 400m stretch of the beach at the East Coast Park has reopened on Thursday (July 20), after it was temporarily shut for workers to clean up oil patches which had washed ashore.
It is still unclear what is behind the oil slick that was first spotted on Wednesday.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) said on Friday (July 21) that test results have shown seawater quality at the East Coast Beach to be normal.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is still investigating the incident, which affected a section of the beach near Bougainvillea Garden and car park F2.
The clean-up operation was completed by Thursday evening, according to the NEA, which said it will continue to monitor the situation closely.
