SINGAPORE — Fibre broadband services to some 10,000 users in the east were fully restored on Thursday night (Nov 15), after more than a day of outage.

In a press statement issued on Friday, fibre network infrastructure operator NetLink Trust said the service interruption was fully resolved at 10.03pm the day before.

It said that the service interruption was caused by a contractor that had severed a number of fibre cables whilst performing construction works along Tampines Avenue 9.

The errant third-party contractor was not engaged by NetLink Trust or its vendors.

“NetLink Trust takes a serious view of such disruption in services caused by errant contractors,” it said, adding that the company is investigating the matter and will take all necessary actions against the errant party.

NetLink Trust also said that it will “continue to work closely with all relevant parties to support end-users who may still be experiencing service difficulties”.

Services were originally expected to be back up by late Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday evening, however, Netlink Trust said users will have to wait until early Friday morning for services to be fully restored.

On Wednesday, NetLink Trust said in a statement that it was notified of service disruption around the vicinity of Pasir Ris, Tampines, Changi and Loyang at around 2.50pm.

“NetLink Trust takes a serious view of such disruption in services caused by errant third parties. (We are) investigating this matter and will take all necessary actions against the errant contractor,” it said.

Customers of Singtel, StarHub, M1 and MyRepublic are among those affected. The telcos said on their Facebook pages on Wednesday that users in some areas such as Tampines and Pasir Ris might experience issues with their fibre Internet services, including Wi-Fi, television, and phone services.
