SINGAPORE — The construction of Singapore’s first integrated community and lifestyle hub located at Tampines is on track, and the first phase will open its doors to the public from November.
Located at the former Tampines Stadium, the new town hub — called Our Tampines Hub — will bring together different government agencies offering a range of services, as well as facilities such as a regional library and shops.
At the topping-up ceremony yesterday, Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat, who is Member of Parliament for Tampines Group Representation Constituency (GRC), also announced the Tampines Kindness Movement, which aims to promote good neighbourliness and care for the environment.
In December last year, a group of 30 residents, grassroots leaders, youths and stakeholders from various agencies came together to generate ideas for a kinder Tampines. Some ideas included having a “100 days of kindness” campaign, and a Tampines recycling day. These ideas were presented yesterday, where residents were invited to choose their preferred projects. The selected ideas will receive seed-funding from Tampines GRC.
Our Tampines Hub will be fully completed in August next year. Among its other facilities are a 5,000-seat stadium with a FIFA-approved football pitch, a 43-stall hawker centre, and a family medical clinic and community health centre.
The Community Chest, the fundraising and engagement arm of the National Council of Social Service, and its corporate partner, The Hour Glass, will also introduce its Our Kitchen programme at the new hub. Under the initiative, seniors will be able to come together and cook a meal in a kitchen at the hub. The programme, which will be rolled out at all community clubs over the next five years, aims to reach out to seniors living alone and those without strong family support.
