SINGAPORE — National water agency PUB said flash floods were reported at a few locations after heavy rain yesterday afternoon.
In Dunearn Road (between Yarwood Avenue and Binjai Park), heavy rain had caused a section of the Bukit Timah Canal to overflow, although the road remained passable to traffic and the waters took 25 minutes to subside. The slip road from Clementi Road to Ulu Pandan Road, however, was not passable to traffic for 15 minutes.
Other areas affected by floods included the junction of Sunset Drive and Sunset Square, junction of Clementi Avenue 4 and Commonwealth Avenue West, and Lorong Kismis.
The heaviest rainfall was recorded at Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s rain-gauge station, at 86.6mm from 3pm to 4.40pm. It peaked between 3.30pm and 4pm at 51.8mm.
PUB said work to improve drainage in these areas are ongoing, and added that the public should exercise caution as flash floods may occur with heavy storms. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
