SINGAPORE – A food delivery rider was killed in an accident involving a car at Chua Chu Kang on Tuesday (Sept 27) night. Police have arrested a woman and two men for alleged careless and drink driving.

In a statement on Thursday, the police said that they were alerted to the accident involving a car and a power-assisted bicycle (e-bike) along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1 at 11.23pm on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old rider was taken unconscious to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and died later.

In a separate statement, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said that two people were taken to the hospital but it did not elaborate.

The police did not specify whether it was the woman or one of the men, whose ages ranged from 32 to 36, who was driving at the time of the accident.

In a video posted online apparently filmed soon after the incident, a food delivery bag can be seen in the middle of the road while several people stand around the rider and his e-bike, trying to assist the injured man as he lies on the road.

A red Toyota can be seen parked at the accident site. The police did not specify the type of car involved in the accident.

Foodpanda told TODAY that the deceased man was a Foodpanda delivery rider, but added that he was not making a delivery for the platform when the accident occurred.

Some food delivery riders work for more than one platform. A bag that appeared to be the delivery bag of another ride-sharing firm can also be seen on the rider's e-bike in the video.

In a later statement, Foodpanda said that the firm is "deeply saddened to to hear about the accident, and urge everyone to obey traffic rules and exercise extra caution for the safety of all road users".
