Four more co-opted into PAP central executive committee

SINGAPORE — The People’s Action Party (PAP) has co-opted four more members into its 18-member Central Executive Committee (CEC) — the party’s highest decision-making body.

SINGAPORE — The People’s Action Party (PAP) has co-opted four more members into its 18-member Central Executive Committee (CEC) — the party’s highest decision-making body.

The four are Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs Masagos Zulkifli, Chua Chu Kang GRC Member of Parliament (MP) Zaqy Mohamad and Holland-Bukit Timah GRC MP Liang Eng Hwa.

The appointments come after the PAP voted 12 Cabinet ministers into the CEC at its party conference and rally last month, including party chief Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, party chairman National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan and party first and second assistant secretary-generals Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean and Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob and Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen were also co-opted into the CEC.

The 12 elected members — which include party vice-chairman Yaacob Ibrahim, treasurer and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Lim Swee Say, assistant treasurer and Foreign Affairs Minister K Shanmugam, Social and Family Development Minister Chan Chun Sing, Minister in Prime Minister’s Office Grace Fu, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong, Education Minister Heng Swee Keat, as well as Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin — co-opted the four additional members when they met on Monday.

The CEC also appointed Mr Masagos, Minister of State for Trade and Industry Teo Ser Luck and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Sam Tan as 2nd Organising Secretaries of the party.

In addition, Ms Fu was appointed Chair of the PAP Women’s Wing, while Mr Chan is Chair of Young PAP. Mdm Halimah was appointed Chair of PAP.SG.
