Frozen pork from Netherlands recalled after Salmonella outbreak

SINGAPORE — The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) is recalling batches of frozen pork from the market, following a Salmonella outbreak linked to a slaughterhouse in the Netherlands.

In a media release on Friday (Dec 14) night, the AVA said that it is working with importers to remove the implicated frozen pork from the market.

This comes after the European Commission’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed issued an alert of a foodborne outbreak of Salmonella Goldcoast.

The AVA urged consumers to cook all raw meat thoroughly to prevent bacterial infection from Salmonella bacteria, which can be found in raw meat, including pork.

It also stressed the importance of good food hygiene and food safety practices. This includes the washing of hands before handling ready-to-eat food, before eating and after going to the toilet; separating raw meat from vegetables, fruit, cooked and ready-to-eat food, as well as using separate sets of knives and cutting board for raw and cooked food.
