SINGAPORE — The Media Development Authority (MDA) decided to block access to extramarital dating website Ashley Madison because it “ran counter to Singaporeans’ values”.

Communications and Information Minister Yaacob Ibrahim said this on the sidelines of a community forum yesterday (Nov 9), in response to an MDA statement on Friday which announced the decision.

Dr Yaacob said it is important for the government to show that it cares about family values.

He said: “It was very clear that they want to set up shop here and promote things which we think run counter to our values.

“And so we decided that (we had) better not wait for them to set up and just tell them they are not welcome here, because we need to safeguard our family values.” CHANNEL NEWSASIA
