He is also happy that the Government will do more to ensure workers continue to be up-skilled and retrained to keep up with requirements of the job market.

“I’ve also been pushing hard for the ceiling of the re-employment age to be further raised, and I believe this also comes within the overall direction of empowering our people and making the best use of the potential of all our people, including our older workers,” said Mr Heng.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the Whampoa Emergency Preparedness Day on today, which is aimed at teaching residents to better prepare against the haze when it returns.

Vulnerable residents also received a care pack which included N95 masks, and essentials such as canned food and medical supply kits.

Some 500 residents were also taught the six steps of wearing an N95 mask correctly, for effective filtration of air pollutants. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
