SINGAPORE — While the dry and warm weather in Singapore is expected to ease in the second half of August, rainfall for August is expected to be below average for many parts of Singapore.

This is despite an expected gradual increase in shower activities in the last two weeks of the month, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said in its fortnightly weather advisory on Thursday (Aug 16).

Short-duration thundery showers are forecast to occur on five to seven days, with most of the rain falling between the late morning and early afternoon. Showers may extend into the late afternoon on one or two days.

Widespread moderate to heavy thundery showers accompanied by gusty winds can be expected in the morning on two or three days, MSS added.

While the mercury is expected to range between 25°C and 33°C on most days, the temperature may hit highs of around 34°C and lows of about 27°C for a few days with little or no rain.

In the first fortnight of August, the temperature peaked between Aug 11 and 15, registering between 34.0°C and 34.5°C.

MSS attributed the warm conditions to the dry weather, coupled with "strong solar heating".

Rainfall across the island was well-below normal levels for the same period, with only 4mm of rain record at Choa Chu Kang West, which is 96 per cent below average.

Over at Changi, rainfall was the highest at 40.4mm, which was also 45 per cent below average.
