SINGAPORE — When a woman he paid to drink with passed out in a hotel, he removed her bra and took a photo of her while she was exposed.

They had been playing a stripping game at the time, whereby the loser of a card game would remove a piece of clothing and drink a cup of alcohol.

About a week later, Muhammad Khairulanwar Rohmat, started living off the earnings of prostitution when he found clients for a sex worker in exchange for a cut of the earnings.

On Wednesday (Nov 17), Khairulanwar, 30, pleaded guilty to one count of living off the earnings of prostitution and one count of taking a picture of the victim’s breasts without consent.

He was sentenced to more than two years’ jail and fined S$1,500.

His sentence was enhanced as he committed the offences while on remission order for past crimes. Details of the past crimes were not stated in court documents.

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Ng Shao Yan said that on Aug 2 last year, Khairulanwar paid for a 21-year-old woman to drink and chat with him.

He picked her up in his car and after buying drinks at a convenience store, headed to a hotel along Bencoolen Street in Bras Basah.

They then began playing Blackjack, a card game, and the loser would have to take a gulp of alcohol.

After some time, the game progressed into a stripping game and the person who lost three rounds of Blackjack had to take off an item of clothing and drink a full cup of alcohol.

An hour passed and the woman, dressed in just her underwear, began to lose consciousness.

When she passed out, Khairulanwar removed her bra and carried her onto a chair and took a picture.

He then put her bra back on and brought her onto the bed.

DPP Ng said that Khairulanwar was also found to have received prostitution earnings from a sex worker, who was 22 when they met in mid-2020.

Before she was introduced to Khairulanwar, she had been working as a social escort and would sometimes provide sexual services.

He then “taught and trained” her how to “do well with her clients”, DPP Ng said, adding that Khairulanwar also assisted in getting clients for her.

Between Aug 11 to 18 last year, Khairulanwar introduced two clients to her on two separate occasions.

He would drive her from her house to the hotel and told her the client’s age and type of sexual service requested.

The woman then gave him a cut of the money that she earned from the clients. In total, Khairulanwar received about S$1,150.

Khairulanwar’s lawyer Kalaithasan Karuppaya said that his client had pleaded guilty at the earlier opportunity and had been a good person before getting himself into a “mess”.

"(He has) assured me and requested me to inform the court that he will not come back to court again,” Mr Kalaithasan said.

Given that Khairulanwar committed his offence while in remission, District Judge Lim Tse Haw ordered a total jail sentence of 409 days, 10 months and 18 weeks. Khairulanwar will also serve an extra 10 days since he did not pay the S$1,500 fine.

A person who lives on the earnings of a prostitution of a woman may be jailed up to seven years and be liable for a fine of up to S$100,000 under the Women’s Charter.

An offender who commits voyeurism may be jailed for up to two years, fined, caned, or punished with any combination of the three.
