SINGAPORE — Jem and Westgate shopping malls in Jurong East will be closed to the public for two weeks starting from May 23 to break any potential chain of transmission of Covid-19 linked to these two places.

The Ministry of Health (MOH), which announced this in its daily Covid-19 update on Saturday (May 22) night, said that there were 10 recent cases linked to the malls, of whom four were detected through testing operations.

Special testing operations for people who work in the two malls are being carried out and free Covid-19 testing is also being offered by MOH for anyone who had visited Jem or Westgate from May 10  to May 14.

MOH said investigations have found that there is likely ongoing transmission among individuals who visited these malls.

It advised all visitors to Jem and Westgate since May 10 to monitor their health closely for 14 days from their date of visit.

They are also encouraged to visit a regional screening centre or a Swab and Send Home Public Health Preparedness Clinic for a free Covid-19 test if they feel unwell.

During this period of closure for the two malls, members of the public will still be able to access Ng Teng Fong General Hospital through Westgate, and the office towers at these premises will remain open.

The malls will reopen on June 6 after deep-cleaning of the premises.
