SINGAPORE — The licence of KFC at Oasis Terraces in Punggol has been suspended for two weeks from Tuesday (April 6) to April 19, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said.
The fast-food outlet at 681 Punggol Drive has accumulated 12 demerit points over a 12-month period for two offences involving the “sale of food which is unclean or contain foreign matter”, the SFA added. The licensee was also fined S$800.
Under the SFA’s points system, a licence may be suspended for a period of either two or four weeks, or cancelled, should a licensee accumulates 12 or more demerit points during a 12-month period.
In a notice on its website, the agency said: “All food handlers working in the suspended premises would also be required to attend and pass the Food Safety Course Level 1 again, before they can resume work as food handlers.
"SFA takes a serious view of these offences and would like to remind food operators to observe good food and personal hygiene practices at all times, and to engage only registered food handlers.
"SFA will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone found to be in violation of the Environmental Public Health Act."
In response to queries from TODAY, a spokesperson for KFC Singapore said on Wednesday that food safety and hygiene will always be its top priority.
“KFC Singapore takes this closure very seriously and will use this period to tighten our internal operations processes and implement additional checks on our equipment.”
The company said that it had issued a stern warning to the team at the Oasis Terraces outlet and has reinforced and tightened internal processes for the store to ensure that the highest standards of hygiene are maintained.
“This closure will further allow the team to be re-trained to ensure no repeat of such lapses,” the spokesperson added. CNA
