Kranji Primary School to move to Tengah, Outram Secondary relocating to Sengkang
SINGAPORE — Kranji Primary School will move from Choa Chu Kang to Tengah in 2028, while Outram Secondary School will relocate to a new campus in Sengkang in 2026, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said on Tuesday (Jan 16).
SINGAPORE — Kranji Primary School will move from Choa Chu Kang to Tengah in 2028, while Outram Secondary School will relocate to a new campus in Sengkang in 2026, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said on Tuesday (Jan 16).
These were among the relocation plans announced by MOE to "better cater to changing demand for school and preschool places" in Singapore.
The ministry said in February last year that a new primary school would be opened in Tengah, as would a new secondary school in Sengkang.
MOE on Tuesday also announced the opening of two MOE kindergartens — one each in Tampines North and Bukit Batok.
KRANJI PRIMARY SCHOOL
The relocation of Kranji Primary School means that there will be two primary schools in Tengah by 2028. Pioneer Primary School, will relocate from Jurong West to Tengah in 2026.
Anglo-Chinese School (Primary) will open in Tengah in 2030.
MOE said there is a surplus of school places in the north of Choa Chu Kang, where Kranji Primary School is currently located.
Kranji Primary School will stop accepting Primary 1 students from 2025. The school will continue to operate at its current site until all their existing students graduate by end-2029.
As the primary school will stop accepting Primary 1 students from 2025, siblings of existing students will not be able to register for Kranji Primary School.
"However, there are sufficient Primary 1 places in Choa Chu Kang for eligible Primary 1 students to be admitted into," said MOE.
Kranji Primary School will begin operations at its Tengah campus in 2028. Parents who wish to enrol their children in Primary 1 at the school in 2028 can register in the 2027 registration exercise.
MOE also announced the opening of a new primary school in Tampines North in 2029, as more families move to the area with the completion of Build-to-Order projects there.
Details of the new primary school will be announced at a later date, said the Education Ministry.

OUTRAM SECONDARY SCHOOL
Outram Secondary School will relocate from its current campus in York Hill to Sengkang in 2026, to cater to the higher demand for secondary school places in the north-east area, said MOE.
"Although Outram Secondary School is an established school with strong educational programmes, the school is located in a mature area where demand for secondary school places is falling," added the ministry.
To minimise disruption to students, the school will not be admitting new Secondary 1 students in 2025. It will begin accepting new Secondary 1 students from 2026 at its Sengkang campus.
Outram Secondary School will operate two campuses until 2027, when the last batch of Secondary 4 students at the York Hill campus graduates.

NEW KINDERGARTENS
Two new kindergartens will also be opening in Bukit Batok and Tampines North in 2028 and 2029 respectively.
The new MOE kindergarten in Bukit Batok will be located within Bukit View Primary School's new campus and will meet the demand for preschool places in Bukit Batok West.
Parents can register for the 2028 Kindergarten 1 admission when the registration exercise opens in 2027.
Another kindergarten will begin operations in Tampines North in 2029, with details to be announced at a later date. It will be at the same site as the new primary school.

The kindergarten at Kranji will be moving to the new campus — the same site as Kranji Primary School — in Tengah in 2028.
MOE said there are sufficient government-supported preschool options for families in the north of Choa Chu Kang.
It will stop accepting Kindergarten 1 students from 2025 and will continue to operate until end-2025, when all of its Kindergarten 2 children move to Primary 1.
Operations will begin at the new Tengah campus in 2028, and parents who wish to enrol their children at the new campus can register in the 2027 kindergarten registration exercise.
CLOSURE OF KINDERGARTEN
The kindergarten at Blangah Rise in Bukit Merah will be closed at the end of this year.
It was one of the first five MOE kindergartens set up in 2014. Over the years, preschool demand in the area has fallen. It has stopped accepting Kindergarten 1 applications.
"(The kindergarten) is committed to continue providing quality teaching and care to existing Kindergarten 2 children until they complete preschool at the end of the year," MOE said.
The Education Ministry added there are sufficient government-supported preschool places to meet demand in the Bukit Merah region overall.
MOE said it regularly reviews its plans for schools and kindergartens to meet changing demand. Factors such as the current and projected population, as well as the availability of school and preschool places, are considered.
It added that will work closely with educators and staff in the affected schools and kindergartens to ensure a smooth transition.
"If necessary, they may be redeployed to other educational institutions to support our overall organisational and manpower needs," the ministry said. CNA
