One lane was closed to traffic for several hours for resurfacing works and re-opened at about 10.25pm, said a Land Transport Authority (LTA) spokesperson. The LTA had stepped in to resurface the lane when attempts to fully wash off the oil spill proved unsuccessful.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it sent one fire engine to the scene. Its officers assisted in clearing the oil spill, which covered an area of approximately 40m by 5m, using a water jet and solvent.
The National Environment Agency said its service provider spent nearly two hours trying to clean up the spillage, before handing over the site for resurfacing at 6.15pm. The NEA added that it had not yet identified the substance that had been spilled.
Last Friday, an oil spill led to a massive traffic jam on the Bukit Timah Expressway after an oil tanker spilled its contents onto the road. It leding to the closure of two out of four lanes for several hours and affected traffic all the way to Woodlands.
Yesterday (Feb 1), two lanes along the Pan Island Expressway were closed for about three hours following an accident between a tipper truck and an oil trucker.
