PM Lee to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping during visit to China

SINGAPORE — Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to China from March 27 to April 1.

SINGAPORE — Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to China from March 27 to April 1.

Mr Lee will visit Guangzhou, Bo’ao and Beijing at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang, the Prime Minister's Office said on Sunday.

In Guangdong, Mr Lee will meet and be hosted to lunch by Guangdong Communist Party chief Huang Kunming. Mr Lee will also meet Singaporeans in Guangdong.

In Hainan, Mr Lee will attend the opening plenary of the Bo’ao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference and deliver a speech. 

He will attend an official lunch hosted by Premier Li for the foreign leaders attending the conference. 

The theme of this year’s BFA conference is “An Uncertain World: Solidarity and Cooperation for Development amid Challenges.” 

Mr Lee will also have a meeting with Hainan Communist Party secretary Feng Fei.

In Beijing, Mr Lee will meet Chinese President Xi and Premier Li, who will host a welcome ceremony and a lunch banquet. 

Mr Lee will also have meetings with Chairman of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Wang Huning, and Beijing Communist Party leader Yin Li.

Mr Lee will be accompanied by his wife Ho Ching, several political office holders as well as officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Trade and Industry.

During Mr Lee’s absence, Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will be the Acting Prime Minister from March 27 to 28, and Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean will be the Acting Prime Minister from March 29 to April 1.
