SINGAPORE — There will be less wet weather expected in the next two weeks of November, as compared to the first fortnight of the month, the Meteorological Service Singapore said on Wednesday (Nov 16).
Short thundery showers are expected on some days in the afternoon and may extend into the evening on a few days.
In the early part of the coming fortnight, weather conditions may result in widespread thundery showers with occasional gusty winds over Singapore between the pre-dawn hours and morning.
"With well above-average rainfall registered in the first half of the month and less wet weather to be expected for the second fortnight, the overall rainfall for November 2022 is likely to be slightly above average over most parts of the island," said the Met Service.
It also noted that inter-monsoon conditions with low-level winds that are light and variable in direction have been prevailing over Singapore since the last week of October 2022.
Around the end of the month, they are forecast to gradually strengthen and shift to blow mostly from the north-east or north-west.
"This change in monsoonal winds signal the start of the north-east monsoon season which typically extends into March 2023," the Met Service said.
During the second half of November, the daily temperature on most days is forecast to range between 24°C and 33°C.
The temperature might reach 34°C on a few days when there are less clouds, said the Met Service.
FIRST HALF OF NOVEMBER
In its weather review for the first half of November, the Met Service said there were widespread showers and gusty winds between the pre-dawn hours and morning on many days.
Thundery showers also fell over Singapore on several afternoons and nights.
A daily total rainfall of 157.2mm was recorded around the Jurong West area on Nov 14, marking the highest daily total rainfall for the first fortnight of the month.
Due to the rainy weather, the daily maximum temperature was below 33°C on most days and the temperature only exceeded 34°C on one occasion — 34.3°C at Paya Lebar on Nov 4.
The temperature around the Jurong area dropped to 21.8°C on Nov 5 — the lowest daily minimum temperature for the first half of the month.
The rainfall was well above average for most parts of Singapore in the first fortnight of the month, except in its southern part, where rainfall was slightly below average.
The highest rainfall anomaly of 124 per cent above average was recorded at Woodlands, while the anomaly was lowest at Sentosa at 15 per cent below average. CNA
