SINGAPORE — A logistics firm was charged on Tuesday (Jan 14) with discriminatory hiring that favoured an Employment Pass holder over Singaporeans.

Court documents stated that shipping company Ti2 Logistics declared in an Employment Pass (EP) application in July last year that it had interviewed two applicants who were Singapore citizens and that Singaporeans were considered fairly for the position of business development manager.

However, the company knew this was false.

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) charged the company with one count of making a false declaration to the Controller of Work Passes in its EP application.

Under MOM’s Fair Consideration Framework to tackle workplace discrimination, employers submitting EP applications need to first advertise on MyCareersFuture.sg and fairly consider all candidates, barring exemptions.

If convicted, Ti2 could be fined up to S$20,000.
