SINGAPORE – Newly appointed Mayor of the South West district Low Yen Ling said she will focus on fostering a sense of togetherness and inclusiveness for the district.

One way she hopes to achieve that is by reaching out to the elderly.

Ms Low was speaking to reporters today (May 4) at a community event in Bukit Gombak, where about 160 mostly senior residents gathered for breakfast at the void deck of a Housing and Development Board flat.

She said the breakfasts will be a monthly affair, to get seniors together for a healthy meal. Community leaders and volunteers could also use the occasion to share information on the Pioneer Generation Package.

“Since the PGP was announced, through community events, house visits – I’m gathering feedback from the senior residents in Bukit Gombak.

“It is clear that if we can distill the message into a couple of words that rhyme, in their preferred language, it will be able to be easily digested,” said Ms Low, who is also MP for Chua Chu Kang GRC. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
