SINGAPORE — A 33-year-old man arrested in Queenstown on Monday (March 15) for allegedly injuring two people with a razor blade, one of whom was taken to the hospital, will be charged on Wednesday with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

Providing this update in a news release at close to midnight on Monday, the police said they had received multiple calls at about 6.20pm that day of a man allegedly injuring others with a razor blade at Blk 59 Strathmore Avenue.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was at the said location when he claimed to have heard voices in his head telling him to attack people," said the police.

In an earlier statement on Monday night, the police had said that officers responding to the calls had arrested the man at the scene for voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapon and criminal intimidation.

A razor blade was seized as a case exhibit and investigations are ongoing.

"The man has past records with the Institute of Mental Health. He is also traced for consumption of controlled drugs," said the police.

They added that a 38-year-old man suffered cuts and was conscious when taken to the hospital while a 49-year-old woman suffered minor injuries.

The woman was assessed by paramedics from the Singapore Civil Defence Force at the scene and "refused conveyance to the hospital", said the police.

The offence of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon carries punishment of up to seven years' jail, a fine, caning or a combination of such punishments.

"Thus far, there is no indication that this incident is related to the earlier incident at Buangkok Square Mall," said the police.

Earlier on Monday, the police arrested a man who was caught on video swinging a sword at several cars and a passer-by along Buangkok Crescent. He was arrested by the police after he was detained by members of the public.

In a separate statement on Monday night, the police also said that a 37-year-old man will be charged for allegedly causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means in connection with the Buangkok incident.
