SINGAPORE — While he was in a police lock-up last year for theft-related offences, Sulaiman Abdul Majid Maricar threw a cup containing his own faeces at an Aetos security officer who had approached his cell to collect a lunch packet served earlier.

On Friday (May 28), Sulaiman, 34, pleaded guilty at a district court to using criminal force on the Aetos officer, as well as to five other charges for various offences, including stealing from a lorry and a food centre’s cash register, and stealing a motorcycle.

Sulaiman, who has been in remand since Oct 24 last year, is due to be sentenced on June 16.

TWO MEN AND A CUP

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Benedict Teong told the court that the incident between Sulaiman and Aetos officer Lim Wu Hong happened at the Woodlands police division headquarters' lock-up on Oct 14 last year.

Sulaiman was arrested the day before for stealing from a vehicle.

He was given his lunch in the afternoon, which included a paper cup that he subsequently defecated into.

When Mr Lim, who was 24 at the time, came by Sulaiman’s cell in the evening to collect the older man’s lunch packet and cup, Sulaiman threw the contents of the cup at the officer.

The officer then reported the incident to his superior before cleaning himself up.

Sulaiman was released on bail the next day.

MOTORCYCLE THEFT

The court heard that Sulaiman was also involved in several other cases of theft, one of which happened just under a week after he was released from the Woodlands lock-up.

He had met up with his then-girlfriend, Nurul Natasha Roslan, on the afternoon of Oct 20 at East Coast Park where they spent time with each other until midnight.

In need of a mode of transport for himself and his 26-year-old girlfriend, the man searched for a motorcycle to steal and finally found one at about 1.45am at an open-air car park around Marine Crescent.

The owner of the S$7,000 motorcycle had left the key in the ignition.

The duo rode off towards Woodlands on the stolen motorcycle with Nurul riding pillion.

DPP Teong noted that at the point of the motorcycle theft, Sulaiman was under a 25-year driving ban, which started on April 6 in 2015.

OUT OF MONEY

Using the stolen motorcycle, Sulaiman and Nurul rode around looking for cash cards to steal. But when they rode by the Kim Chuan Eating House in Tai Seng at around 12.50am on Oct 23, Sulaiman got another idea.

He forced open the roller shutters of the food centre and the duo made their way to the drink stall.

Using a pair of scissors, Sulaiman prised open a cash register and made off with S$430.

Sulaiman was eventually arrested at JH Hotel at around 1.45am on Oct 24. The stolen motorcycle, which was found parked at the hotel, was recovered and returned to its owner.

It is not immediately clear if Nurul has been dealt with.
