SINGAPORE — A day after his arrest, one of the four men found possessing airsoft guns was charged in court today (June 29).
Yang Ziyi, 26, faces one charge under the Arms Offences Act. If found guilty, he faces a jail term of between five and 20 years and at least six strokes of the cane.
The police had said earlier today that based on preliminary investigations, Yang is also believed to be involved in a criminal intimidation case and other drug-related offences.
At 1.20am yesterday, Yang was arrested outside a 7-11 convenience store at Pioneer Mall along Jurong West Street 61.
He had allegedly carried a “Desert Eagle” pistol, a type of airsoft gun.
An airsoft gun is one that uses compressed gas to fire pellets, and is regulated as ‘arms’ under the Arms & Explosives Act.
Yang’s pre-trial conference has been set for July 13 at 11am. His bail has been set at S$60,000.
