Man charged with hurting police officer

SINGAPORE — A man who allegedly bit a policeman while he was held in a police lock-up was yesterday charged with hurting a police officer.

Bai Ting, a Chinese national, also faces a charge of being drunk and incapable of taking care of himself in a public place. The 28-year-old was found drunk at about 7pm on Sunday at Lorong 27A Geylang. Later that day, in the lock-up of Bedok Police Division Headquarters, he bit Sergeant Ng Wen Chi’s right forearm.

For being drunk and incapable of taking care of himself in a public place, Bai faces a fine of up to S$1,000 and one month in jail. For hurting a police officer, he could be jailed up to seven years, caned and fined. Durga Devi
