SINGAPORE — Residents and workers at four blocks of Housing and Development Board (HDB) flats along Sims Avenue will undergo mandatory testing for Covid-19 after viral fragments were detected in wastewater samples collected from the blocks.

In a statement on Thursday (July 22), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that it is investigating likely coronavirus transmission at 842, 844, 846 and 848 Sims Avenue, which are near the Geylang Serai Market.

Geylang Serai Market is one of several markets and food centres in Singapore where positive Covid-19 cases have been found.

“Epidemiological investigations are ongoing to determine linkages and the source of transmission,” MOH said.

Testing will involve residents as well as owners and staff members of commercial units at all four blocks.

It is optional for those who have tested negative for Covid-19 from July 17.

Testing will be conducted at the pavilion at 3 Geylang Serai on Thursday and Friday between 9am and 4pm.

If a positive Covid-19 case is detected, MOH will isolate the case, identify all close contacts and test and quarantine them to protect the community from further transmission.

Residents are required to bring along their identity card for identification purposes. Leaflets have been distributed and text notifications have been sent by phone to provide them with more information.

Additionally, MOH will conduct voluntary Covid-19 testing for visitors and anyone who has interacted with residents at the four blocks from July 6 to 20.

This will be conducted by appointment only at designated regional screening centres from Thursday to Saturday, and at the pavilion at 3 Geylang Serai from Friday to Saturday between 9am and 4pm.

Those waiting for test results are advised to minimise social interactions as much as possible. They should continue to monitor their health and seek immediate medical attention if they feel unwell.

Those affected may visit https://go.gov.sg/sims-ave-appt or call 1800 333 9999 to make an appointment, or for more information.
