Announcing that it has restocked its stores, the co-operative said the price of the masks will be capped at S$2.25 each and each person is allowed to buy a maximum of 10 pieces.
The purchase limit was to “ensure that we are able to provide for as many households as possible during this period”, FairPrice Chief Executive Officer Seah Kian Peng said. He added: “We urge our customers to only purchase what they need for their personal use so that everyone who needs a face mask may be able to have one.”
FairPrice will also impose a limit of one box of 50 pieces of 3-ply and 4-ply surgical face masks per person. The price of each box will be capped at S$12. There will be no purchase limit for surgical face masks in smaller packs.
Despite clear skies over the weekend, there were still queues for the masks at various pharmacies and shops, as the authorities explained that the respite would be short-lived and hazy conditions were expected to return and linger.
