SINGAPORE – Football fans will not have to pay more to watch this year’s Fifa World Cup on television after Mediacorp’s Toggle, Singtel and StarHub announced they will be working together for the first time to bring a complete World Cup coverage to Singapore.

All three broadcasters will offer the World Cup package at a one-time price of S$94.16 for fans who sign up before May 22. Viewers who sign up after that will need to pay S$112.35. The prices are inclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST).

During the last edition in 2014 when Singtel was the sole rights-holder, fans paid the same prices.

This time round, Mediacorp will also be screening nine matches free — up from four during the 2014 World Cup — on its okto channel. The free-to-air matches comprise the opening game, selected group matches, the two semi-finals and the final.

Fans who sign up with Mediacorp can catch all 64 matches of the June 14 to July 15 football extravaganza via Toggle’s 2018 Fifa World Cup Russia Pass, which comes with a free six-month Toggle Prime plan.

Alternatively, they can also opt for a 24-month Toggle Prime plan at S$159 and add on the World Cup pass at a lower price of S$79.90.

Toggle’s 2018 Fifa World Cup Russia Pass comes with access to a comprehensive World Cup site for subscribers offering insights like team profiles, player information, the latest scores, rankings and match highlights.

“Mediacorp is truly excited about bringing all the action and stories of the World Cup to Singapore audiences,” said Mediacorp CEO Tham Loke Kheng.

“We’re making all 64 matches available on Toggle through subscription and broadcasting nine key matches free on okto in our extensive coverage.”

She added: “We’re also producing special programmes for Singtel, StarHub and Mediacorp that capture the highlights and deliver insights and commentary about the games on football’s greatest stage.”

On top of broadcasting the matches, Mediacorp will also produce a studio show “capturing all the action and drama of the World Cup”, to be shown on Mediacorp, Singtel and StarHub channels every match night.

The show – which will deliver more than 200 hours of World Cup-related content – will feature extended live feeds from the stadium and analysis with football personalities pre-match, at half-time and post-match.

The 2018 Fifa World Cup will be played in 12 venues across 11 cities, including the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, which will stage both the opening match and final of the tournament.
